Aleene’s JewelIt This glue was developed for permanently attaching sequins to T-shirts. It works perfectly for gluing your plastic battens to the fabric shade. It dries clear and remains flexible even after hanging in your window for years. Warning! This glue works best on 100% cotton fabrics or a cotton/polyester blend. Fabrics that are made from 100% polyester or 100% silk can be stained by the glue. I strongly suggest that you test your fabric first before gluing on your battens. Not dry cleanable. |

Aleene’s Fabric Fusion This is a permanent dry cleanable fabric adhesive that is a unique clear, water-based, nontoxic urethane adhesive that provides a permanent fabric bond. Unlike solvent-based adhesives, Fabric Fusion is dry-cleanable (and washable) and does not string while you apply it to fabric. I strongly suggest that you test your fabric first before gluing on your battens. Works well on 100% polyester and even silk fabrics. Use sparingly. |
Regular white glue (such as Elmer's glue) becomes brittle when exposed to sun. Your battens will just fall off after a few months in your window. You only need a small dot of glue (the size of a DRIED pea) every 6" to 8" to hold your batten in place. One bottle should be enough for 10 to 20 shades. You can also find both of thes items at your local crafts store, such as Michaels or Hobby Lobby. You should test either glue on your fabric before using it on your shade. Of course you don't want to purchase an entire bottle and then find out it stains your fabric. Just send a sample of your fabric to us and we'll test it for you then send it back so you can see the results. Send a 6" by 6" piece of your front fabric to: Terrell Designs, Attention Glue Testing, 5325 Sanford Cir E, Englewood, CO 80113, USA. We'll test both the Jewel-It and Fabric Fusion glues using battens, then send your fabric back to you with the battens attached and a recommendation on which glue to use on your shade. We may also recommend that you use another method of attaching your battens. I do have a request. If you know the fabric content (for example, 100% cotton, silk, 50% cotton/50% polyester) include that information so that I can begin a database of what works for each fabric. I make a lot of shades, but I tend to use 100% cotton on most of them.
