Cord Cleat Overview

CCLengths.jpg
We offer five cord cleats for sale on this site. These are shown in the photograph to the left. The cleats are (from left to right) cast metal with a shiny brass finish, cast metal with an antique bronze finish, cast metal with a plated nickel finish, clear plastic and stamped metal with an antique bronze finish.

Read about what you should consider when choosing a cord cleat.
A cord cleat serves the following important functions:
  • It keeps the shade in a raised position (or lowered position for a Top-Down shade).
  • It keeps the cords tidy and out of the way.

The drawing at the left shows two views of a cord cleat. A cleat can be thought of as a body with two arms. The body is attached to the window trim or wall. The arms stick out at an angle. The lift cord is wound in a figure-8 around the two arms. The area “under” the arms determines how much cord can be wrapped. The Table below gives dimensions for each attribute:

L = overall length of the cord cleat

W = width at the widest part of the body

D = depth of the body

B = the length of the body – this is the length of the cord cleat that is in contact with the wall or window trim

T = the “throw” of the arms, or the distance the tip of the arms project from the wall

H = the distance between the two screw holes.

That's a lot of information, so let me summarize. The Cast Cleats (CCSB, CCN and CCABC) hold the most cord, followed by Clear Plastic Cleat (CCP). The Stamped Antique Bronze cleat (CCABS) holds the least cord, but is a great inexpensive metal choice.

I usually only consider the "look" I want. I either want to match the hardware already in the room, or I want the cord cleat to disappear.
