Cord Drop - How to Thread
Detailed instructions on how to thread the lift cords into a cord drop.
Your lifts cord exit the mounting board at the top of the shade. The shade shown in the photograph at the left has 3 lift cords.
Step 1. After pulling evenly on each lift cord separately, tie all of the cords together just outside the shade. It is important that all of the cords be equally taunt so that the shade pulls up level. This top knot is very important. Once the cords are knotted together correctly, your shade will always raise and lower horizontally. I gently pull on each cord separately with my right hand until each is taunt and then transfer all cords to my left hand and tie the knot. I then pull the shade up and down to check that it is level. If it pulls up cock-eyed, I untie the knot and start over. |

Braid your cords. In the case of three cords, this is straight forward. Hold all three cords in your left hand. Pass the right-most cord over the middle cord. Now pass the left-most cord over the middle cord. Continue until you have about 5" of cord left.
If you have more than three cords, divide the cords into three groups. For example, if you have four cords, divide the cords into 1 cord, 1 cord and 2 cords. Treat the 2 cords as one when you braid. If you have five cords, divide the cords into 1 cord, 2 cords, 2 cords.
If you have two cords, you can still braid the cords. Don't twist them, but rather pass left over right, left over right, left over right. |
Insert all of the cords into the TOP hole in the cord drop. Pull all of the cord through until the braided part is all of the way through the housing. |
Your lift cord is probably too long. Lay the shade on your work surface and decide where you want the cord pull to hang when the shade is all of the way closed. If you don't know where that is, stand at the window and extend your hand straight out in front as if you were grabbing the cord. Note where that is in relation to the top of the window (or where you will be mounting the shade). That is where you want the cord pull. Pull the cord drop up on the braided lift cords about 2" past that point. Tie a knot just outside the bottom of the cord drop. Pull tightly on the cord and trim the ends. |
Pull the knot up inside the body of the cord drop. |

You have successfully finished off your cords with your cord drop. |
