Cord Lock Pulley - How to Thread

TwistTie2.jpg
I include directions with the Cord Lock Pulleys when you purchase them, but in case you are curious, read on.
First of all, something to NOT do: DON’T REMOVE THE GUIDE WIRES TO MAKE IT EASIER TO INSERT THE CORDS. Instruction books for Warm Windows actually suggest that you do this. I have found that once the wires are removed they tend to come out by themselves over time as you operate the shades. Not a good thing!

It is tedious to thread the cord through the cord lock pulley. The pulley must be hanging "down" for the two rollers to separate so that you can pass the cord between them. You can either harden the end of the lift cord by melting it with a match, or you can make a cord threader. The photographs below show a dental floss threader being used as a "lift-cord needle". You can purchase this item in most grocery stores and drug stores in the toothpaste section.

Read this page for instructions on how to thread your lift cords through our Cord Lock Pulley.

You can buy a package of dental floss threaders in the grocery store. They are with the toothpaste and dental floss.

You can make a cord threader from a twist-tie. Fold it in half and secure the two bottoms with cellophane tape.

This photograph shows the cord inserted into the "eye" of the twist tie, which becomes a needle.

How to Thread a Cord Lock Pulley

CordLockSchematic
The Cord Lock Pulley is attached to the underside of the mounting board, on the side of the shade that you want the cords to exit. The larger (metal) roller should be on the “outside” edge of the shade. In the drawing, you would use your right hand to raise the shade. This means that the right side of the shade ends at the right side of the pulley and the cords enter the Cord Lock Pulley from the left side. I have drawn three cords. When the pulley is in the position that is drawn (hanging down), there is a gap between the two rollers.

Step 1. Thread all cord through the top of the cord lock. All of the lift cords enter from one side of the Cord Lock Pulley, the “inside” edge.

This drawing shows how the floss threader (or twist tie) is inserted between the two roller bars in the Cord Lock Pulley housing.

Step 2. Thread one lift cord through the cord threader. Poke the end of the threader between the two rollers and through one slot of the cord lock pulley.

Step 3. Gently pull the cord through the Cord Lock Pulley.

Step 4. Repeat with all cords, except guide the floss threader through a different slot for each cord.  Use the Table above to determine if your cord can be inserted in any slot or if you should avoid the “outside” slots next to the plastic housing.

If you are using the 0.9 mm lift cord, do NOT use the outside slots next to the plastic housing.
