Pulley

I much prefer a metal pulley rather than a plastic pulley. They can lift very large shades and never break. The plastic pulleys are usually designed for mini-blind type shades that are lightweight.

The pulleys are attached to the wood mounting board using two screws, which are supplied with the pulleys. If you use flat pulleys instead of screw eyes, you eliminate the friction of the lift cord rubbing against the metal screw eye. Instead, the lift cord rolls the pulley bar and your shade lifts effortlessly.

pulley A Comment of Other Types of Pulleys
I am always looking for additional hardware items (sort of a hobby of mine). I have tried several other pulleys that are marketed for use on Roman shade headrails. The pulley shown at the left did not pass my test for Flawless Use and is not for sale on this web site. I am showing it to you to illustrate why I use the Flat Pulley. I used to use the pulley on the left, but found that even 1.4 mm lift cord would get caught between the housing and roller bar. They are also more expensive than the flat pulleys.

If you are handy, you can make your own pulleys! Click here for instructions sent to me by Dan McGrath.
