Attach Cord Shroud to Shade
You will be tieing a cord shroud to the lift rings. This shroud is a 100% polyester cord with tiny loops spaced about every inch. After the shroud is attached, the lift cord will be threaded through the lift rings and also through the loops in the shroud. This allows the shade to fold normally, but does not allow a hazardous loop to be formed since the lift cord cannot be pulled out on the back of the shade any further than the spacing between the lift rings.
Cut the cord shroud to the proper length. The easiest way to determine the cut size is to lay the shade upside down on a work surface. Lay the shroud along one side of the shade. The cut length should be 6" below the bottom lift ring and 6" above the top of the shade. This is the minimum length of the shroud. Only cut the first length of shroud. If you find you need a little more or less for the remaining columns, you can adjust the length.

You are going to tie the shroud around the thread used to sew the lift rings onto the shade. Begin by wrapping the shroud around the bottom lift ring as shown.
You will be tieing a square knot. Pass the short end of the shroud over and under the long portion of the shroud. Pull the half-knot tight against the threads that attach the lift ring to the shade. |
Complete your square knot by once again passing the short end over and then under the long portion of the shroud. |
Pull the knot very tight and tug firmly on the long end of the shroud to make sure it will hold. |
Lay the shroud flat between the bottom lift ring and the next ring up in the same column. Repeat the process just described by wrapping the shroud around the threads on the second lift ring. The shroud should be as flat as possible between the two lift rings. You certainly don't want the shroud to pull the lift rings together since your shade won't hang properly if that happens. You also don't want much, if any, sag of the shroud after it is tied in place. |
This photograph shows the shroud tied to the bottom and second lift rings. You can see a slight "sag" in the shroud. This is okay, but any more is not okay. You have about an inch of tolerance (sideways) in the shroud. If it is more, undo the second knot and pull the shroud tighter. |
Continue to tie the shroud to each lift ring in the column. You should have several inches of cord extending past the top of the shade after attaching the shroud to the top lift ring.
Repeat the procedure for the remaining columns of lift rings. |
After you have attached the cord shroud to each column of lift rings, hold the shade up and check that none of the shrouds are tied too close together. You want the shade to hang straight and flat. Now you are ready to attach the cord shroud to the headrail.
