Child-Safe Lift Rings

While difficult, a small child (or a pet) can insert it's head between the back side of the shade and the lift cords. Then he must fall or trip to actually hurt himself. Still, you don't want that to happen.
An easy way to make a shade "child safe" is to eliminate the possibility of entanglement in the lift cords when the shade is in the down position. This can be accomplished if the lift rings are designed to release the lift cord when excessive force is exerted on the cords.

Our new Child-Safe lift rings consist of two Items.
Item SafeLR is used for all rows of lift rings EXCEPT the bottom row (those at the Lower Drop location). This clear plastic lift ring is shaped like a fish. You sew the "head" to the back side of the shade following the directions for "normal" lift rings. You thread the lift cord through the body of the fish. Sudden or heavy force causes the lift cord to slip through the tail of the fish.
Item SafeLRBtm is used for the bottom row of lift rings. This two-part device is more secure than the "fish" lift ring. It releases with excessive force, but stays put under normal lifting and lowering of the shade.
I made a shade for my guest room using these lift rings. The shade is made with heavy decorator fabric. The lift cord sometimes slips out of the top "fish" lift ring on the side with the pull cords. I simply press the cord back into the ring when that happens. However, if that happened on the lowest lift ring, it would be harder to restring the shade.
