Specifications

A Cord Drop (or Cord Pull) is used at the end of your lift cords - the ones you pull on to raise and lower the shade. Using a cord drop means your lift cords stay clean. It should have enough weight so that it hangs nicely at the side of your shade. There is information on how to thread the lift cords into a cord drop in the Shade FAQs section.

It's great to have options when it comes to a cord drop. We carry six cord drops. The Tables below give the specifications of each cord drop. You can click on the photograph to get more details on each one.

* The 0.9 mm lift cord is so thin that it is difficult to use with all of our cord drops. You thread the cords through the top hole, tie them together and then slip the knot up into the body of the drop. The 0.9 mm cord makes a very small knot unless you have a lot of cords. If the knot is too small, it slips right out the top of the cord drop. The recommended MINIMUM number of cords for each cord drop is given below. This assumes that you make a double-knot.

What if you want to use the 0.9 mm lift cord for a shade that has fewer than 4 to 5 lift cords? You should use one of our cord tassels, shown at the right. These can hold up to 5 of the 0.9 mm cords.

Details of Cord Drops

CDWDetail

CDW - Wood Cord Drop. This pull is made from natural pine which you can easily paint or stain, although I really like it as is. One customer paints them to coordinate with her shades and tells me her clients love them. The drop is the perfect "hand size" and also has a great feel to it. Even though there isn't a metal weight inside this drop, the wood body is thick enough that it hangs nicely. I am using this drop for more and more large shades. The top hole is nice and large and you can get an amazing number of cords into it. One minor aggravation is that the bottom hole is not much larger than the top and making a good knot that will pull up into the housing but not come back out the top hole takes some doing. You have to make an elongated knot with the cords.

CDLDetail

CDL - Large Cord Drop. This is a much improved version of our old large Cord Drop. It is quite substantial and will hold up to eight 1.4 mm lift cords. It is made from heavy white plastic and the center is filled with a metal weight. I like the fact that it is the same color as the lift cord since it blends in and is unobtrusive. When I need a white drop and many cords, I use this pull.

CDFDetail CDF - Fluted Metal Cord Drop. This is a beautiful, heavy decorative cord pull, in a shiny antique brass finish. It goes well with a Roman shade made with heavy deocrator fabric. The top hole is a nice size and the slick metal walls allow the lift cords to slide in easily. The inside of the drop is large enough to easily hide the knotted ends of the cords. The only drawback is the price. But since you only need one per shade, it can be worth it, particularly for large shades. Another possible negative is that the drop is quite heavy - 3 ounces, compared to 1.2 ounces for the large weighted plastic cord drop.
CDMABDetail CDM/AB - Small Metal Cord Drop in Antique Bronze. This is a Terrell Designs' exclusive. Just the right size and weight for almost any Roman shade. The finish matches nicely with our antique bronze cord cleats.
CDMChromeDetail CDM/Chrome - Small Metal Cord Drop in Chrome. This is a Terrell Designs' exclusive. Just the right size and weight for almost any Roman shade. A perfect match with contemporary decor.
CDMWhiteDetail

CDM/White - Small Metal Cord Drop in White. This is a Terrell Designs' exclusive. Just the right size and weight for almost any Roman shade. This metal cord drop is powder-coated and blends in perfectly with your white lift cords.

We have a new batch of these and our manufacturer seems to have fixed the coating problem we had with the first batch. So now they are back up to full price.

A Comment on Flimsy Cord Drops
I have seen flimsy cord drops that do not have much weight to them. They only fulfill one function as far as I am concern. They DO keep the ends of the cords clean. You have gone to a lot of time and expense making your Roman shade. Spend a few extra dollars and finish off the cords with a professional-quality Cord Drop.
