Road Dining Room Shades
Copyright 1991 - Terrell Sundermann
These four
shades were the second set of pieced Roman shades that I made. Each
panel measures 36" wide and is 86" long. I made four separate
shades for two reasons. Number 1, I didn't think that I could make a
large shade to cover the three sliders. Number 2, this is in a dining
room and I wanted to lower one or two shades to keep the sun out of our
eyes while still having the room light. Over the seasons, different
shades had to be lowered as the sun moved in the sky.
I had just
discovered quilt fabric stores and most of the fabrics are Jinny Beyer
cottons. The shade on the left shows how beautiful pieced shades are
when backlit by the sun. The 1/4"-seams create a stained glass
effect that is really stunning. I used this photograph for my first
postcard, which I mailed to 300 interior designers in 1993. I got my
first commissioned job because of this photo, and quit my day job to
start Terrell Designs. And the rest is history.
