Breakfast Nook French Door Shade
Copyright 1995 - Terrell Sundermann
This
center-design pieced Roman shade was installed in a Show Home in
Littleton, Colorado. It measures 29" wide by 72" long. The
breakfast table dictated the color scheme for this shade: orange-checked
chair cushions, purple napkins and yellow china. The shade is made from
solid-colored chintz. This is a south-facing window and the shade shines
when the afternoon sun streams through it.
The shade
glides neatly behind the door handle when it is raised or lowered. This
photo shows the nice effect of combining a pieced Roman shade with
another type of window treatments, in this case, wood blinds.
The design
is very simple for an interesting reason. This shade was made 3 days
before the Show Home opened to the public. I had made several other
shades for the designers in other rooms of the house. I received a
frantic call less than a week before the opening asking if I could make
one more shade. The wood blinds had just been installed and you couldn't
open the door more than a few inches! The headrail of the blinds
projects almost 3" into the room and the door headrail hit the
left-hand window headrail. I mounted the 1x2 board flat, so that now the
projection of the door window treatment was only 3/4".
