Shining Ladies
Shades

Elizabeth
sent along these photos with this message: Dear Terrell, I am finally
sending photos of shades I have made for a large kitchen/dining room and
a small breakfast nook. The background color on all of the shades is a
Nancy Crow design in a very dark blue (but not navy), a mottled Crush
fabric. I did not want all of the window to have the same pattern but
they do have most of the same fabrics in different pieced quilt patterns
and I love them. Often, I will sit and stare, admiring them again and
again. "Good morning, ladies. My, you do look attractive today
today and, oh, how you do compliment each other!" Sewing so many
little pieces can put one over the edge!
The
two very large ones are 74" wide and 64" long.
The
two shades over the kitchen sink are about 48" wide and 42"
long.
Elizabeth
calls this shade, which is in her small breakfast nook, "Corn and
Beans". It is 40" wide by 60" long. "When this one was
mounted it looked drab and awkward, so I decided to make the valance
(40" wide by 16" long). Much improved."
Elizabeth's
e-mail message continues: "I am planning to make shades for the
rest of our house - the master bedroom with sheets and blankets hanging
on the windows will be next! A Bargello design will be the first design
for a long narrow window. Your book "Pieced Roman
Shades" has been torn apart and each page placed in a protective
sheet and the entire book put into a three ring binder. If I had not
done this, the book would be falling apart now. Thanks so much for all
your assistance and advice, in the book and on your website."
Thank
you, Elizabeth, for sending me your photographs so that I, and everyone
who reads this site, can see your stunning shades. We can't wait to see
your new creations.
