Make Roman Shades

Terrell has over fifteen years experience in designing and making unique Roman shades, lecturing and teaching. She is the nationally recognized expert for classic Roman shades and top down bottom up fabric shades.

We are your specialists for making Roman shades, buying Roman shade hardware and learning how to make Roman shades, whether Classic flat shades or top down bottom up shades.

You can also use this Service to turn a quilt top into a window shade. Vanessa C. sent me the layout of a Block-of-the-Month top she had partially completed. She had a sliding glass door that she needed a shade for and she figured that this top would fit that window, with only minor modifications. 

All references below to the "book" are for Pieced Roman Shades - Turn Your Favorite Quilt Patterns into Window Hangings" by Terrell Sundermann, C&T Publishing, 2000. (You can order this book in our Store or below when you send in your Layout Form.)

What I Do for Your $35 Layout Fee

• I lay out the front of your shade so that it will fold up correctly. You do not have to complete the Vertical and Horizontal Layout Tables.
• I draw your shade and block for your reference when you make your pieced Roman shade.
• I determine all of your fabric and hardware requirements. You take these to the fabric store to purchase your own fabrics.

What Layout Information You Will Receive

• A full-color drawing of your shade(s), both lowered and retracted. All dimensions will be noted. For example, see page 38 of the book.
• A drawing of your block will all dimensions noted. Specific cutting directions are also provided.
• A Fabric and Hardware Requirements Table, giving complete yardage and quantities of all required fabric, lining and supplies.

What Layout Information You Will NOT Receive

• fabric choices, although I may snip small swatches from my own stash as examples of what I would use.
• instructions on how to make your blocks. To make your block you must:

        1. Do one of the projects in the book (Shadows, Oriental Delight or Illusions), or

        2. Purchase the OceanView and GardenView Project Instructions or the Four Diamond Project Instructions, or

        3. Be an advanced quilter who feels confident in making a different block.

To make your front into a shade, you must already own or purchase my book.

• 38" x 62" window, Shadows pattern, inside mount: $35 (one drawing)
• 38" x 62" window, Shadows pattern, inside and outside mount: $40 (two drawings)
• 38" x 62" window, Shadows and Illusions patterns, inside and outside mount: $50 (four drawings)
• 94" x 54" window frame with three windows, Illusions pattern, inside mount, one shade or three shades: $40 (two drawings)
